Police arrest man accused of robbing French citizen

Gizri police on Sunday, acting on a tip-off, arrested the main accused of robbing a foreign citizen in Jami Commercial Area of Defence Housing Authority.

French citizen, Idreesi, was robbed by the suspects who were riding in a white sedan. The accused, in police uniform, took advantage of the search to steal foreign currency while checking Idreesi's passport and bag. The arrested suspect, Shahid Rajab, a citizen of Gilgit, was arrested from his residence in Jami Commercial Area. He was wearing a uniform similar to the police.

Rajab and his wife, Zainab, have been arrested earlier as well. He used to extort money from expatriates and foreign nationals and sell the foreign currency at different money changers.

Rajab confessed to the police that besides his wife, Zahid and Ali were among his accomplices.

The arrested suspect had stolen 5,000 euros from a citizen who had come from France to participate in religious ceremonies, from within the limits of the Artillery Maidan police station. Some amount of foreign currency has been recovered from the arrested accused and further investigation is underway in this regard.
