Katy Perry is explaining the significance of her most recent music video.

The 39-year-old pop star provided her fans with a backstage look at the video for "Woman's World," which debuted on Thursday, July 11. She shared a new reel on Instagram on Saturday, July 13.

Dressed in a red scarf reminiscent of Rosie the Riveter, an orange crop top inspired by construction workers, denim shorts, and a tool belt, Perry discussed the message of the project while surrounded by dancers dressed similarly.

She began by playfully saying female empowerment phrases to the camera in character, including "Girlboss s---," "You go girl!" and "You were born to shine!" before explaining the scene she was filming at the time.

"We're kind of just having fun, being a bit sarcastic with it," the "Firework" singer said. "It's very slapstick and very on the nose."

She continued by describing the initial scene of the music video and how she and her dancers, fully immersed in their characters, were pretending, "We're not about the male gaze, but we really are about the male gaze."

"And we're really overplaying it," she added, before explaining that the scene came before she got "smashed" by a piece of metal in the video, which would serve as a "reset" for her and her character's "idea of feminine divine."
