In a startling turn of events on Saturday, July 13, former President Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, prompting rapper 50 Cent to recall themes from his debut album, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'."
The album's track “Many Men (Wish Death)” reflects on 50 Cent's own brush with death, mirroring the peril Trump faced.
"Trump gets shot and now I’m trending," 50 Cent posted on his social media, using a shrugging emoji.
This caption was set against a backdrop of an edited album cover that showed Trump's face on 50 Cent's body.
Prior to the meme, 50 Cent uploaded a photo from the scene at the Butler, Pennsylvania rally.
The image captured Trump, bloodied but defiant, amidst a chaotic scene with Secret Service agents quickly securing him.
Trump's spokesman, Steven Cheung, later confirmed that Trump was "fine," though the attack resulted in one casualty and the death of the suspected assailant.
“Many men wish death upon me/ Blood in my eye, dawg, and I can’t see/ I’m tryin’ to be what I’m destined to be/ And n—– tryin’ to take my life away,” are the potent words from 50 Cent in “Many Men (Wish Death),” a song that captures the essence of survival against odds.
Released in 2003, "Get Rich or Die Tryin’" not only topped the Billboard 200 albums chart but also earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.
Although “Many Men (Wish Death)” was not an official single, it resonated deeply, supported by a music video that extended its influence.
In a later reflection, 50 Cent admitted to Howard Stern in 2013 that “Many Men” was his least favorite track on the album, citing its slower pace compared to the preferred fast beats of that era.
He described the shooting, saying, “He was paid to do it … It’s my past … It’s karma,” and remarked that the physical pain was less severe than enduring multiple dental procedures.
Online reactions to 50 Cent's recent post ranged from humorous to supportive, with comments enhancing Trump's controversial image with lines like “Get reelected or die trying.”
