Ceasefire talks in Gaza suspended due to Israeli disagreements, Egyptian sources claim

Negotiations stalled by internal Israeli conflicts and shifting terms

CAIRO:

Efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza have been suspended after three days of intensive negotiations failed to yield a viable agreement, according to two Egyptian security sources.

The sources, speaking to Reuters under the condition of anonymity, attributed the deadlock to a perceived lack of genuine intent from Israel to reach a settlement.

The sources reported that the behaviour of the Israeli mediators indicated "internal discord." During the discussions, the Israeli delegation initially approved several conditions, only to later amend or introduce new terms that jeopardised the progress of the negotiations.

The mediators interpreted these "contradictions, delays in responses, and the introduction of new terms contrary to what was previously agreed" as indications that the Israeli side viewed the talks primarily as a public relations exercise rather than a sincere effort to resolve the conflict. This perception has led to the current suspension of the ceasefire talks.
