Ben Shapiro clashes with Carolina politician over ‘systemic racism’
Ben Shapiro recently clashed with former South Carolina state Rep. Bakari Sellers on HBO’s ‘Real Time with Bill Maher,’ debating the issue of systemic racism and its impact on black Americans.
Sellers raised concerns about African American female mortality rates, describing it as a significant political issue. Shapiro responded by noting that similar issues exist in Europe, attributing the disparities in the United States to lower median household incomes among black Americans. Sellers challenged this assertion, saying, “I would call bullsh*t because it actually crosses across socioeconomic lines.”
Shapiro pressed further, questioning if white doctors are inherently racist. Sellers countered by acknowledging the presence of implicit bias in the healthcare system, stating, “No, but there actually is implicit bias in our healthcare delivery system.” Shapiro then argued that factors such as pregnant obesity rates among different communities should be considered, cautioning against attributing disparities solely to implicit bias, which he described as "innately, insanely difficult, if not impossible to measure." He added, “Unless you remove the statistical confounds, you end up trying to blame vague shadowy figures like implicit bias.” Sellers expressed confusion at Shapiro's complex argument, stating, “I don't know what he just said.”
Benjamin Shapiro, an American lawyer, columnist, and conservative political commentator, writes for Creators Syndicate, Newsweek, and Ami Magazine. He co-founded The Daily Wire and hosts 'The Ben Shapiro Show,' a daily political podcast and live radio show.
