Meghan Markle and Prince Harry enjoyed a date night at the 2024 ESPY Awards, held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on July 11. The event, hosted by their friend Serena Williams, marked a special occasion for the couple as Prince Harry was set to receive the Pat Tillman Award for Service, recognizing his work with the Invictus Games.

Williams, in her opening monologue, humorously acknowledged the couple's presence, joking about accusations of them "taking up too much oxygen." The Duke and Duchess were seen laughing along with the playful jab.

The Duchess of Sussex and Williams have a long-standing friendship, dating back to 2010. They have supported each other through various milestones, including clothing line launches, tennis tournaments, podcasts, and even Meghan and Harry's wedding in 2018.

The Pat Tillman Award for Service, named after the NFL player who died in Afghanistan in 2004, is given annually to individuals who have made significant contributions to service personnel and veterans. However, the announcement of Prince Harry as this year's recipient sparked controversy, with Pat Tillman's mother, Mary Tillman, expressing her disapproval.

Mary Tillman questioned the choice, suggesting there were more deserving candidates working within the veteran community without the same resources and privilege as Prince Harry. In response, ESPN defended their decision, highlighting the incredible work of the Invictus Games Foundation and its positive impact on military service members and veterans.

Despite the controversy, the ESPY Awards provided a lighthearted and enjoyable evening for Meghan and Harry, who were seen supporting their friend Serena Williams and celebrating Prince Harry's recognition for his dedication to the Invictus Games.
