Sam Claflin, Patrick Stewart to star in Netflix's Barbaric, a Deadpool meets Game of Thrones series

Netflix is adapting the acclaimed Vault comic, "Barbaric." The series is set to star Sam Claflin, known for his roles in "Daisy Jones & The Six" and "Peaky Blinders," as Owen, a barbarian cursed to do good. The legendary Patrick Stewart, famous for his roles in the "Star Trek" and "X-Men" franchises, will lend his voice to the talking, and rather lustful, axe.

Described as a blend of "Deadpool" and "Game of Thrones," "Barbaric" promises a unique mix of humor and graphic violence. Set in a medieval fantasy world, the series follows Owen and his unusual companion as they embark on a quest to defeat a great evil.

The project is being developed by A+E Studios and 100% Productions, led by Sheldon Turner and Jennifer Klein. Turner, known for his work on "Up in the Air" and "X-Men: First Class," has penned the script.  Michael Bay, renowned for his action-packed films like "Transformers" and "Bad Boys," is in talks to direct, which would mark his television debut.

Turner and Klein will executive produce through 100% Productions, alongside F.J. DeSanto and Damian Wassel from Vault Comics, and Claflin, Luke Carroll, and Michael Stevenson for Cusp Films. Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson will executive produce for A+E Studios.

"Barbaric," published in 2021, received high praise from critics and fans alike. The comic is co-created and written by Michael Moreci with art by co-creator Nathan Gooden.

Claflin, who recently received a Golden Globe nomination for his role in "Daisy Jones & The Six," will next be seen in a new adaptation of "The Count of Monte Cristo." Stewart, who recently reprised his iconic role in the "Star Trek: Picard" series, will bring his distinctive voice to the series.
