Mick Fleetwood hopes for reconciliation between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham
Fleetwood Mac's Mick Fleetwood has voiced his optimism regarding a potential reconciliation between longtime bandmates Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.
In an interview with MOJO, the 77-year-old drummer acknowledged the deep-seated rift between the two, emphasizing his personal wish for healing. "It’s no secret, it’s no title-tattle that there is a brick wall there emotionally," Fleetwood remarked, highlighting the complexities of their relationship.
Despite their storied history, which includes a romantic involvement in the '70s and Buckingham's departure from the band in 2018, Fleetwood remains hopeful.
The sentiments expressed by Fleetwood contrast sharply with recent statements from Nicks, 76, who has expressed reservations about the band's future without the late Christine McVie, a pivotal member who passed away in 2022. "Without Christine, no can do," Nicks asserted, indicating her belief that continuing without McVie is impractical. She also addressed Buckingham's health concerns following his heart surgery in 2019, suggesting doubts about his ability to withstand the rigors of touring.
Reflecting on McVie's passing, Nicks and Fleetwood publicly mourned their bandmate's death, sharing heartfelt tributes on social media. The loss has underscored the profound impact McVie had on the group, prompting reflections on the band's evolution since her departure.
