Ryan Reynolds is committed to doing whatever it takes to keep his wife and kids happy.

The 47-year-old father of four discussed how he prepares mentally and physically for his role as Deadpool, and shared his family's thoughts on the process, in a recent interview with Variety.

"It’s not so much about the aesthetic, though I have to fill out the suit. But you want people to see that you’re putting in the work," explained Reynolds in an interview alongside his Deadpool & Wolverine costar Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy.

"It makes me feel like I earned it. I have an intense relationship with Deadpool," he said. "My middle daughter said, 'Daddy, when can you stop Deadpooling?' I was like, 'Soon, baby. I promise.' "

After Levy, 55, joked that Reynolds needs "to stop wearing that mask in the house," Jackman, 55, chimed in, expressing, "Yeah, that’s getting weird."

Reynolds joked, "It is weird. Listen, Blake [Lively] insists, so I just do it."

Reynolds and Lively, 36, have four children: daughters James, 9, Inez, 7, Betty, 4, and their fourth baby, born in February 2023.

Deadpool & Wolverine is the third installment in the franchise, following the original 2016 film and its 2018 sequel.

In February, Levy mentioned to PEOPLE that the onscreen chemistry between Reynolds and Jackman is "electric."

"I knew they were professionals. I knew they were the loveliest of gentlemen, but when you see them as Deadpool and Wolverine, something electric happens," he said. "

“And you're in the presence of icons and even as their good buddy, that gave me a thrill many a day. Hugh, Ryan, and I are very good friends in real life. We spend a lot of time together in real life."
