Pindi activates flood relief camps

RAWALPINDI:

With the onset of monsoon rains and expected flooding in Nullah Leh and 15 other stormwater drains across the city, the Rawalpindi district administration has set up and activated five flood relief camps to assist the affected residents of low-lying areas.

Each camp has been equipped with personnel working in three shifts. The central major relief camp has been established at Islamia Higher Secondary School, Murree Road No 1, with arrangements to accommodate 500 to 1,000 people, including women and children in case of floods.

Other flood relief camps have been set up at Islamia School No 4 Liaquat Road, Girls College New Katarian, Girls High School Bhosa Godam Dhok Ratta, and Girls College Gawalmandi.

Mats have been laid in all these flood relief camps. In case of flooding, there will be floor bedding for the affected people. The responsibility for food lies with the district revenue department. The health department will be responsible for medicines and medical check-ups, while security will be managed by the local police stations.

These flood relief camps will remain operational until August 15 and will be dismantled from August 16 onwards.
