Wahab Riaz breaks silence following his removal from top PCB posts

Former pacer questions PCB's claims of undue pressure, citing documented minutes from meetings

Former Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz has responded to his removal from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee, taking to the social media platform 'X' to address the ongoing discussions about his dismissal and the reasons behind it.

"I don't agree with the statements being discussed about adding pressure to the members of the selection committee; how can 1 vote dominate 6? Everything is documented on record in the meeting minutes," Wahab posted. "I will be issuing my statement today evening," he added.

The PCB confirmed the development on Wednesday morning, stating, "It notified Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services would no longer be required in the national selection committee setup." The decision followed Pakistan's disappointing performance in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where the team failed to progress beyond the group stage.

Additionally, the PCB has decided to relieve Wahab Riaz from his duties in the national team management. Riaz, who had served as the senior team manager during the tours of Ireland, England, and the ICC T20 World Cup, will be replaced.

Former cricketers Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq's removal from the selection committee marks a significant shake-up in Pakistan cricket, as the PCB looks to revamp its strategy following a string of lacklustre performances.
