Pakistani actress calls out 'indecent' wealth display at lavish Ambani wedding

Pakistani actress Zoya Nasir has criticised the extravagant wedding of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of India's wealthiest business tycoon, Mukesh Ambani, who is set to tie the knot with his fiancee Radhika Merchant on Friday.

Ceremonies have been ongoing since March earlier this year in Jamnagar and Gujarat in India.

The pre-wedding events featured several influential personalities from around the world, including figures from social, political, business, entertainment, and sports realms.

Further celebrations for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's marriage are planned from May 29 to June 1 in Italy and southern France, with ongoing festivities scheduled in Mumbai through July 14.

The extensive and expensive wedding has sparked widespread interest on social media, with Pakistani actresses also expressing disapproval.

In this regard, Zoya Nasir remarked on her Instagram story, stating, "I have never seen such an indecent way of displaying wealth before. We believe that you have earned money through hard work and want to show the world your happiness, but in my view, this is not just about the happiness of your son, but another story altogether."

Previously, Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s seemingly endless wedding festivities continued with the highly anticipated sangeet night.

Celebrities from Bollywood and Hollywood alike were spotted attending the event. As per Hindustan Times, the night also featured a special performance by Justin Bieber, a video of which went viral on social media. The footage, however, has sparked mixed reactions among netizens – mostly bad.

The Canadian sensation was reportedly paid USD 10 million for his performance at the event. He arrived in Mumbai the same morning and seemingly left his mojo at the airport. Clad in an outfit that consisted of a vest and trousers that progressively slipped lower and lower past his waistline as the night progressed, Bieber took to the stage with the enthusiasm of a sloth and performed hits Peaches, Love Yourself, Where Are U Now? and No Brainer.

Social media of course was flooded with hilariously sarcastic comments about the performance, with one user quipping, “10 million USD for this rubbish”.

Earlier celebrations included a three-day event in March featuring Rihanna, and a luxury cruise in May with performances by Katy Perry and Andrea Bocelli.

The Ambani family also hosted a mass wedding for 50 underprivileged couples last week.

Previous events saw Beyonce perform at Isha Ambani's wedding in 2018 and Chris Martin of Coldplay at Akash and Shloka's pre-wedding affair.
