Muharram security tightened in DG Khan

Punjab Cabinet Committee on Law and Order has mobilised to ensure the smooth execution of Muharram processions and assemblies in DG Khan.

The committee’s review session was chaired by Provincial Minister and Committee Chairman Khawaja Salman Rafique.

Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rahman, Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan, and Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani were also in attendance.

The session was marked by the presence of IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar, Special Secretary Home Fazlur Rehman, Additional IG Special Branch Zulfiqar Hameed, and Additional IG CTD Waseem Syal.

Additional IG South Punjab, Commissioner, and RPO DG Khan provided a comprehensive briefing on the security arrangements.

The committee was informed that security measures have been finalized for 1,359 processions and 4,649 Majlis in the DG Khan Division. Directives have been issued concerning the regulation of 159 scholars and zakareen, with 82 of them facing specific orders.

Provincial Health Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee for Law and Order, Khawaja Salman Rafique, emphasized the importance of religious devotion and respect during Muharram. He stated, “The Cabinet Committee is visiting divisional headquarters across Punjab to review the arrangements. It is essential to spend Muharram peacefully with proper implementation of SOPs issued by the Home Department.”

Rafique highlighted the role of Peace Committees in maintaining harmony throughout Punjab and mentioned that the Central Control Room is actively receiving reports from across the province.
