Meghan Markle allegedly took 13 foreign trips despite claiming royals confiscated her passport
Meghan Markle took at least 13 trips abroad despite stating in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that her passport had been confiscated.
The Palace was shocked by the televised interview with Prince Harry and Meghan in 2021. Meghan alleged that racist remarks were made about their children's skin color. Oprah clarified that Harry emphasized that “it was not his grandmother or grandfather who were part of those conversations”.
According to The Sun's report, Meghan, 39, stated in the TV interview that upon joining the Royal Family, she did not regain access to her passport until she relocated to California.
She told Oprah, “You couldn’t just go. You couldn’t. I mean, you have to understand, as well, when I joined that family, that was the last time, until we came here, that I saw my passport, my driver’s license, my keys. All that gets turned over. I didn’t see any of that any more.”
According to sources cited by the paper, it was understood that Meghan's passport was securely stored to prevent it from being misused, although she reportedly used it for her vacations. Insiders allegedly indicated that she would have presented her passport to border officials in 12 countries she visited as a tourist during that period.
After she began dating Harry, Meghan's travels included visits to New York, Ibiza, Italy, and Botswana. They also participated in three official royal tours, visiting Morocco, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, and Fiji. Royal author Margaret Holder reportedly commented, “Of course the Royal Family would want to keep Meghan’s passport safe."
