Nurse allegedly sells newborn in Pakpattan

Family alleges baby taken under false pretences, sold in Lahore

PAKPATTAN:

A nurse at a private hospital in Pakpattan allegedly sold a newborn baby girl, leading to a police investigation and public outcry.

Saddar police have registered a case against the nurse following a complaint from the baby's grandmother. However, the accused nurse remains at large, and the mother of the baby is experiencing severe distress, including fainting spells.

The family and local residents are demanding the recovery of the baby girl.

Iqbal Kausar of Chak 41 SP was brought to Village 40 SP by her family for delivery.

She gave birth to a daughter, named Merub by the grandmother, through a normal delivery at a private hospital. Two days after the birth, nurse Sakina Bibi visited Iqbal Kausar's house and claimed the baby needed vaccinations.

After administering the vaccinations, Sakina Bibi asserted that the baby's condition was deteriorating and insisted she be taken to a hospital in Lahore.

Accompanied by the baby's grandmother, Lateefan Bibi, Sakina transported the baby to Lahore.

At the hospital, Sakina Bibi informed the grandmother that the doctor recommended keeping the baby in an incubator for two days.

She assured the family that they would return to collect the baby afterwards.

However, nurses Samina and Sakina disappeared with the baby, falsely telling the parents that she was still undergoing treatment in Lahore.

The mother of the abducted baby, along with other family members, alleged that the nurses, in collaboration with Shahab Deen Dogar, sold the baby in Lahore.

The family claimed they were offered Rs100,000 to remain silent and have since faced threats for pursuing the matter or contacting the police.

Residents of the area have staged protests, demanding immediate action from the authorities.

While Saddar police station in Pakpattan has registered a case, the accused remain at large.

The family and local community are urging IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar and Pakpattan DPO Tariq Wilayat to ensure the swift recovery of the baby girl and bring the perpetrators to justice.
