From Kiara to Mira: The best of Bollywood style at the Ambani sangeet
The Ambani sangeet, predictably extravagant, turned into a fashion showdown with blindingly sparkly lehengas and well-tailored sherwanis. As the evening progressed, I forgot the event was a pre-wedding celebration and began seeing it as more of an Indian Met Gala of sorts. Here’s a look at the best-dressed celebrities who ensured the Ambani sangeet doubled as a high-stakes fashion face-off.
Kiara Advani and Siddharth Malhotra
First on the list are Bollywood “it” couple, Kiara and Sid. The former stunned in an exquisite pearl-embellished Tarun Tahilani blouse and skirt which honestly looked like it could be a modern rendition of a saree. The blouse came as a corset bodice with a peach-hued cape around her shoulders and a mermaid-style skirt, also studded with pearls. Kiara never fails to impress when it comes to her fashion choices, which is why I expected nothing less from her.
Siddharth’s look, on the other hand, came as a welcome surprise. In a crowd of boring sherwanis, his outfit stood out. He sported a black sherwani featuring enough embroidery to keep a karkhana busy for a month, along with a black kurta which lazily peaked through his open sherwani.
Janhvi Kapoor
I’ve never been the biggest fan of Janhvi’s fashion sense- or a fan at all, really. I always found it somewhat tacky. But her sangeet look made me eat my words. For the occasion, Janhvi opted for a lehenga-choli crafted by the popular designer, Manish Malhotra. The skirt featured exquisite peacock feather motifs embroidered throughout, while her blouse faded into a barely-there look as it crept up. Completing the look was a sleek dupatta in hues of blue and green. If anyone outshone the bride, it was Janhvi. She later shared on Instagram that the look drew inspiration from her cherished memories in Jamnagar.
Mira Rajput Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor
Shloka Ambani
Saving the best for last, Shloka Ambani’s sangeet look was the only one that merited a double take. Channelling her inner Poo from K3G, she stunned in a peach and orange lehenga that looked like it arrived straight off the Bole Chudiyan set. Manish Malhotra dipped into the archives and came out with a stunning rendition of the original with a cropped blouse featuring a jewelled one-shoulder neckline, a backless design, embroidery, and butterfly-adorned tassels on the hem.
