A woman was killed and her daughter injured during an exchange of gunfire between police and suspects in a car in the Steel Town area of Karachi.

The shootout resulted in a vehicle being hit by gunfire, leading to the death of 60-year-old Sarah Ibrahim and injuries to her daughter, Ghanwa.

Following the tragedy, Sarah's relatives spoke to the media at Jinnah Hospital, alleging that the police were responsible for the woman's death and her daughter's injuries, claiming they were hit by police bullets.

In response, they staged a protest, blocking both tracks of the National Highway. The protest, which lasted for over 20 hours, severely disrupted traffic.

Demonstrators claimed that the bullets that struck the car were fired by the police and demanded that a murder and attempted murder case be registered against the SHO of Steel Town and other involved officers.

On the contrary, Steel Town police registered a case against unidentified car-borne suspects through Head Constable Aidan, holding the suspects responsible for the woman's death and her daughter's injuries.

Negotiations with the demonstrators were ongoing but had not reached a resolution by Sunday morning. The protest, which began at 2:30 PM on Saturday, continued until 10 AM on Sunday, causing significant traffic disruption.

The prolonged protest led to long queues of vehicles, including freight trucks. According to the traffic police spokesperson, vehicles were diverted to alternative routes.

Traffic coming from Thatta was directed from ICI Mill to Port Qasim Mehran Highway, while smaller vehicles coming from Kathore were diverted from Somar Goth to Memon Goth.
