Andy Murray reveals unconventional first date with wife Kim Sears
Andy Murray may have won numerous tennis championships, but his love story with wife Kim Sears didn't quite follow a traditional script. In a recent interview on Centre Court, the 37-year-old tennis player shared the details of their first meeting, which took place when they were both 18 years old.
Murray and Sears met in New York during the U.S. Open, where Kim's father was a tennis coach. They went out for dinner, and Murray confessed that he "choked a little bit" during their first date. Things took a turn for the worse when Murray vomited twice during a match he played afterwards, once right in front of Sears and then again on his opponent's racquet bag.
Despite this inauspicious start, Sears seemed to still like Murray, and he knew he had found someone special. The couple tied the knot in 2015, a decade after their first meeting.
In the same interview, Murray also spoke about how marriage has affected his tennis career. While he acknowledged that getting married was a "step forward" in his life, he emphasised that his priorities remain the same. "I still need to work hard; I still need to put the work in," he said.
Murray's dedication to his craft is evident in his decision to skip his honeymoon and head to Barcelona for 10 days of training instead. "It's been good, but you still have to put the work in," he explained.
