Heavy rain lashes parts of Faisalabad

Equipment deployed, relief camps set up in low-lying areas

During continuous rainfall, the WASA Met office recorded a maximum of 98 millimetres of rain in Dogar Basti adjacent to an overhead reservoir.

According to officials, 97mm of rainfall was recorded in Madina Town, 96mm in Gulistan Colony and 92mm in Ghulam Muhammadabad and Allama Iqbal Colony.

All the officers and technical field staff were activated to drain out the rainwater with the help of heavy machinery.

Taking stock of the situation arising out from the ongoing two-day rain spell, the managing director of the Water and Sanitation Agency told the media that 78 dewatering sets remained fully operational.

He all the resources were being used to give much needed relief to residents of the unprivileged areas and emergency relief camps had been set up at designated spots.

He said complete monitoring of the levels of disposal stations was being ensured and generators were being used for alternative power supply for completed the drainage from different roads and streets.

Faisalabad Commissioner Silwat Saeed and Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Nayyir Sheikh also visited main thoroughfares and locations as well as emergency relief camps.
