BISP and PTA join forces against SMS fraud and online scams

PTA chief Hafeez Ur Rehman assures full cooperation to ensure the security of BISP beneficiaries.

Scammers claim the app comes with exclusive features, which were previously available to top celebrities only, including video calling, free calling.

The chiefs of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) held a meeting in Islamabad to discuss protecting BISP beneficiaries from scams.

Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of BISP, met with Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chairman of the PTA, to discuss protecting BISP beneficiaries from scams at the PTA Headquarters.

The officials addressed the issue of messages and calls from 8171 being falsely masked as “BISP” and the proliferation of fake websites exploiting the BISP name.

Their collaboration aims to safeguard beneficiaries from such scams and misinformation.

The discussions included the importance of launching a nationwide public awareness campaign to educate beneficiaries about these scams.

They agreed on forming a joint committee to review progress and implement proactive measures.

Validating the mobile numbers of BISP beneficiaries registered against their CNICs was also discussed, along with designing a mechanism for the issuance of SIMs to existing and new beneficiaries.

Chairman PTA, Hafeez Ur Rehman, assured full cooperation from PTA to support these initiatives and ensure the security of BISP beneficiaries.
