Matty Barton imprisoned with violent thug after being outed as trans in Emmerdale
Matty Barton finds himself trapped in a cell with a violent thug after being outed as trans in prison on Emmerdale.
The character is in jail awaiting trial for stabbing Samson Dingle.
Matty has been living in fear during his prison stay, worried about the consequences if other inmates discover he is trans.
This week, he plucked up the courage to tell his cellmate Les after he came to his defence when menacing thug Robbo was bothering him.
In upcoming Emmerdale episodes, Matty feels slightly more optimistic, believing Les has accepted him as a trans man and eagerly shares this with his wife Amy during her visit.
He is thrilled to learn they have a new solicitor and feels hopeful about his chances of being released soon.
As visiting hours conclude, Amy feels relieved by Matty's improved outlook, but as she watches him leave, she is approached by Robbo, whom she mistakenly thinks is Les.
Unfortunately, Robbo's sympathetic act leads Amy to reveal the truth about Matty, unaware of the danger she has now exposed him to.
Matty returns to his cell as Les leaves to see his solicitor, and Robbo then enters the cramped cell.
Matty's heart sinks as he realizes this thug has spoken to his wife.
Meanwhile, an upbeat Amy returns home to share Matty’s positive attitude with their family.
Simultaneously, Matty is trapped in his cell, terrified as Robbo reveals he knows the truth and menacingly closes in on him.
Emmerdale airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
