Reduces annual development budget by Rs31.7 million from total outlay

RAWALPINDI:

The Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) on Thursday approved a ‘balanced’ budget with an outlay of Rs3.16 billion for the financial year 2024-25, with an increase of Rs693.082 million as compared to last year.

However, the Board allocated 43 new development schemes along with original works after reducing Rs31.7m funds from the total outlay. Only Rs12m have been left for original works, Rs300m for Maintenance and Repair (MOR) and Rs350m have been kept for uplifting of infrastructure from supplementary grant.

The budget was approved in a Board meeting chaired by the Station Commander and President of the Chaklala Cantonment Board Brigadier Ahmed Nawaz. Elected and nominated members and Cantonment Executive Officer Umar Masoom Wazir participated.

After the Board’s approval, the budget was sent to the Director of MLC for final approval. With an opening balance of Rs50m, the Board will expect a total income of Rs3164.82m from property tax, building application fee, commercialisation fee, water recovery, TIP, grant to security and supplementary grant.

The Board will collect Rs318.987m from extraordinary debit under income from all sources, Rs5.345m from CB Medical and Dental College, Rs30m from transfer from the premium account to the Cantonment fund and Rs350mpremium from the ownership rights of the shopping arcade to be built at Chungi No 22 in future.

An amount of Rs1,150m has been earmarked for the annual expenses incurred on the establishment in terms of expenses, in which Rs56m has been increased. An amount of Rs674.35m will be kept for contingencies, in which Rs84.35m has been increased. Under the name "Original Works," a significantly modest budget of only Rs31m has been allocated for new developmental schemes. It has been reduced by Rs31.7m. Thus, the remaining budget for new development schemes will be only Rs12m.

An amount of Rs300m has been earmarked for maintenance and repairs, while Rs350m has been allocated from the Supplementary Development Grant for uplifting the infrastructure of Chaklala Cantt.

CCB allocated meagre funds for development work in the new year’s budget, while a sum of Rs1,824.350m has been kept for non-developmental expenditures for the establishment, salaries, pensions and other needs and emergencies.

The elected members took up the issues of drinking water, street lights, sewage and sanitation in their respective wards. However, the authorities linked the demands to the availability of resources and assured them to resolve their problems in a phased manner.
