Police clueless in search for Gill’s brother
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the Punjab Police to ensure the production of former PTI leader Shehbaz Gill’s brother, Ghulam Shabir, after police admitted they were clueless about his whereabouts.
During the proceedings, the DIG Operations, Interior Secretary, and other officials were present.
The law officer informed the court that, following an earlier court order, geofencing data had been collected and was under examination. Justice Amjad Rafiq questioned whether the phone numbers of the agencies were visible on mobile phones.
The interior secretary explained that the numbers are readable if a call is made via WhatsApp, but not on regular calls.
The DIG Operations stated that they were still clueless about Ghulam Shabir’s location. In response, Justice Rafiq remarked, “You people look so helpless. We pray to God for the safe return of the detainee.”
Justice Rafiq was hearing a plea filed by Muhammad Yaseen, the detainee’s brother, who contended that Ghulam Shabir was taken into custody while en route to Islamabad.
Yaseen expressed concern for his brother’s safety and requested the court’s intervention for his recovery.
The court adjourned the matter until July 18 for further proceedings.
