Amazon ends 'Outer Range' after two seasons

Prime Video has cancelled the sci-fi drama despite strong viewership.

Amazon Prime Video has chosen not to renew the sci-fi/neo-western series 'Outer Range' for a third season, starring Josh Brolin. 

This decision follows the recent release of its second season on May 16, which garnered significant viewership in the United States. 

Despite ranking third on the Nielsen Streaming Originals chart during its peak week with 476 million hours viewed, and maintaining a strong presence at number eight with 314 million hours the following week, the series faced cancellation.

'Outer Range' followed the story of rancher Royal Abbott (played by Brolin), who grapples with a mysterious void discovered on his Wyoming ranch, challenging his family's unity amidst personal trials. 

The second season intensified the narrative, focusing on the aftermath of the disappearance of Abbott's granddaughter, deepening the mystery surrounding the enigmatic phenomenon.

The ensemble cast featured notable actors such as Lili Taylor, Imogen Poots, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercrombie, and Will Patton. Season two also saw Brolin stepping into the director's role for one of its pivotal episodes.

Executive producers included Charles Murray, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Ernest McNealey, Josh Brolin, Tony Krantz, Heather Rae, and Jon Paré, highlighting a collaborative effort in bringing the series to life.
