SHO among 15 facing terror charges after clash with lawyers
Police have booked more than 15 unidentified officials, including the SHO of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station on various charges, including terrorism, following a violent altercation between police and lawyers on Tuesday night.
As per reports, Qadir Bakhsh Rajper Advocate arrived at Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station around 8pm on Tuesday with a court order for the release of his client's vehicle. According to Aamir Warraich, President of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA), SHO Raja Tanveer refused to comply with the court order, leading to a heated argument with Qadir Bakhsh.
Warraich claimed that the situation escalated when police not only mistreated Qadir Bakhsh but also subjected him to physical abuse and detained him. Senior police officials, including the SSP of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, the SP of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and the DSP of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, intervened and initially agreed to two out of three demands put forth by the protesting lawyers, which included the removal, suspension, and demotion of SHO Raja Tanveer by one grade. However, as the lawyers continued their protest, police eventually acceded to their third demand - registration of a case against the officials involved. Following the registration of the case, the protesting lawyers dispersed peacefully.
On his part, SHO Tanveer stated that the altercation began when a lawyer arrived at the station with a court order for the release of a TikToker's vehicle. He alleged that the lawyer became aggressive during their interaction, leading to a physical confrontation.
