Prince William and Princess Kate have made a significant new hire for their charity, the Royal Foundation.

The foundation has appointed former Tesco CEO Sir David Lewis as a director on its board of trustees. Sir David, who was knighted in 2021 for his services to the food industry and business, has a distinguished career, including over 27 years with consumer goods giant Unilever and a tenure as Tesco's CEO from 2014 to 2020.

According to filings made to Companies House on July 2, Sir David's appointment as director of the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales was effective from June 20.

The foundation supports various non-profit initiatives, including conservation, environmental issues, early childhood development, mental health, emergency services, and homelessness.

The Royal Foundation, established in 2009 by Prince William and Prince Harry, expanded its patronage to include Princess Kate and Meghan Markle following their marriages.

However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex departed from the foundation in 2019, ahead of their decision to leave the Royal Family and relocate to the US in early 2020.

The foundation's mission is to "mobilise leaders, businesses and people to address society’s greatest challenges."
