Hailey Welch, famously known as the viral "Hawk Tuah" girl, has broken her silence since her sudden rise to fame, addressing rumours about her personal life for the first time.

Welch appeared on Brianna LaPaglia's 'Plan Bri' podcast on Monday, where she discussed her newfound fame and clarified various misconceptions circulating online.

LaPaglia broached the topic of unwanted attention Welch has received. "I wonder, like, I bet there's a lot of creeps trying to message you and be around you, but I think the majority of people just think it's a hilarious meme," LaPaglia remarked. Welch acknowledged the mixed reactions, saying, "It's funny, but I don't want that to be my image. I don't want to be known as the 'Hawk Tuah' girl."

Reflecting on the viral moment, Welch explained, "I was being a bit of a smart arse. Someone comes up with a microphone and asks me something like that, so I said, 'Oh well, I'm going to hawk tuah and spit on it.' I didn't mean anything by it."

Welch also shared how her friends and family have reacted to her fame. "People are coming out of the woodwork. My close friends and family have been really supportive. They've defended me against any nasty comments," she noted.

Welch gained viral fame after a clip from Tim & Dee TV on 11 June, where she humorously described a provocative move, coining the phrase: "You gotta give 'em that 'hawk tuah' and spit on that thang." This phrase catapulted her to internet stardom, catching the attention of personalities like Joe Rogan. Reflecting on her sudden fame, Welch expressed gratitude for the support she has received.
