BLACKPINK’s Lisa called out for copying her Rockstar look by Chinese designer Jewel Y
Lisa, the internationally acclaimed member of BLACKPINK, created excitement with the debut of her eagerly awaited solo music project, 'Rockstar'.
On June 28th, fans and critics were captivated by her dynamic return and the visually striking music video that accompanied it. However, controversy arose when Chinese designer Jewel Y used Xiaohongshu, a popular Chinese social media platform, to accuse Lisa's stylist of copying.
Did BLACKPINK’s Lisa steal her Rockstar look from Chinese designer Jewel Y?
Jewel Y's accusation revolved around a star-shaped leather halter top worn by Lisa in her ‘Rockstar’ music video, embodying a rockstar aesthetic.
According to Jewel Y, this design closely resembled one of her creations from 2020. She claimed that a stylist from Korea or Britain had used her star-shaped top back then, essentially taking her idea and making it widely known on social media and in fashion circles.
In her statements, Jewel Y explained that her fashion line had been manufactured in London and used for global photoshoots before she transitioned to a career in makeup during the later phases of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Because her brand had limited exposure in the Chinese market, Jewel Y acknowledged that her designs were not officially copyrighted, leading to discussions about the validity of her allegations.
