Killer Mike wins album of the year at 2024 BET Awards
Killer Mike secured one of the top honors at this year's BET Awards, winning the album of the year.
The Grammy-winning artist received the award for his album MICHAEL during Sunday's awards ceremony in Los Angeles.
Competing for the same award were Chris Brown with 11:11, Gunna with A Gift & a Curse, 21 Savage with American Dream, Usher with Coming Home, Drake with For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition), Victoria Monét with Jaguar II, and Nicki Minaj with Pink Friday 2.
Killer Mike's MICHAEL stood out among the eight strong contenders this year, with fans speculating if the award might be shared again as it was in 2023 when Beyoncé and SZA both won for Renaissance and SOS respectively.
In his acceptance speech, Killer Mike expressed deep appreciation for the support from his fellow Black artists, saying: "Thank you for seeing me, Black people."
He added, "Thank you for believing in me Black people. Thank you for honoring me in this way," while also thanking his wife Shana, their four children, and his manager.
The artist, whose real name is Michael Render, also mentioned his recent arrest at the Grammy Awards, noting humorously: "Technically, I was not supposed to be here."
