Light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira defends title against Jiri Prochazka at UFC 303 Main event
Alex Pereira has defended his light heavyweight championship knocking out Jiri Prochazka in the second round of the UFC 303 Main event fight
In the main event of UFC 303 on Saturday, Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira faced former titleholder Jiri Prochazka in a highly anticipated rematch.
Their first encounter at UFC 295 last November ended with Pereira securing a second-round TKO victory over Prochazka.
Leading up to UFC 303, Prochazka had secured a TKO win over Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 300 in April, while Pereira entered the octagon on a three-fight winning streak, having most recently knocked out Jamahal Hill on the same UFC 300 card.
The fight began with Pereira initiating with a leg kick, countered by Prochazka's left hand. Pereira responded with more leg kicks and landed a significant left hook.
Prochazka closed the distance with a combination, but Pereira countered effectively with a right hand followed by more leg kicks. Pereira maintained his advantage with kicks to the body and legs as the round progressed.
In the middle of the first round, Prochazka managed to land a right hand and clinch Pereira against the fence. Pereira retaliated with a knee to the body, and they exchanged knees before Pereira broke free.
Pereira continued his assault with leg kicks and closed the round strongly by flooring Prochazka with a left hand, leaving him visibly shaken as he rose to his feet before the bell.
The second round began explosively as Pereira landed a head kick that dropped Prochazka immediately. Pereira capitalized with a barrage of punches, prompting the referee to stop the fight early in the round. Prochazka struggled to recover and appeared badly hurt as he attempted to stand.
The fight was officially stopped at 0:13 of the second round, marking a decisive victory for Alex Pereira in retaining his Light Heavyweight Champion at UFC 303.
