IIU students protest ‘eviction’ from hostels
The International Islamic University’s students protested against being expelled from the university hostels, saying they are not allowed to stay there despite paying heavy fees. According to the university administration, the hostels are undergoing renovation and construction work is ongoing that is why the students cannot stay there, however, the students said that then why all foreign students, including Afghans, are still staying there.
Speaking to the media, a student said, "Today is the blackest day in the history of the university. We have been thrown out of the hostels despite paying our heavy hostel fees. It seems like the entire police force of Islamabad has been brought to the university as if we are criminals. We demand that the university administration immediately open the hostels for the students. We reject online semesters. The university administration should allow us to enter the university."
The protesting students have called on the federal government to intervene and mandate the university to provide hostel accommodation for all Pakistani students immediately.
