Action ordered against river encroachment

Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabil Javed chaired a meeting at the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to review the cleaning of rivers, emergency evacuation and preparations for setting up relief camps.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia briefed the participants about the monsoon contingency plan and possible floods, including drain cleaning, emergency evacuation and relief measures.

Kathia said an awareness campaign has been started in view of monsoon rains and possible floods.

The health secretary gave a briefing on medical camps, anti-snake vaccination and epidemic diseases.

The livestock secretary shared details about vaccination and dry fodder for animals in camps.

The relief commissioner issued instructions to the DCs of Sialkot and Rawalpindi regarding cleaning of rivers and canals. He also directed the commissioners of Rawalpindi, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Gujranwala to visit the rivers.

Relief Commissioner Nabil Javed said operation should be carried out against encroachments on riverbeds.

He directed the authorities in all the districts to complete the cleaning of the rivers by July 10.
