Indian actress gets death threats over ’promoting beef’ on cooking show
Bengali actress and host Sudeepa Chatterjee has reported receiving death threats after a video of her discussing a beef dish on a cooking show went viral.
Indian media reported that Chatterjee, based in Kolkata, clarified that during a Bangladeshi show, a participant cooked a beef dish.
As the host, she engaged in a conversation with the participant, which led to a video that spread widely on social media.
"I have been accused of cooking and eating beef during the show, which is completely false. I merely spoke with the person who prepared the dish," Chatterjee explained.
The actress insisted, "I have never cooked, eaten, or even touched beef. Those threatening me should watch the video carefully and show me where I touched the beef."
She continued "Secondly, Karim Jahan (a participant of the show) did the cooking. The videos are still unedited. Anyone can have a look. Nowhere will you see that I have even touched beef," Chatterjee said in a post on Facebook.
Chatterjee added that the show was organised for Eid ul Adha, and she was representing India on the Bangladeshi program.
"Most of the people criticising me haven’t even watched the video. I am being targeted for political gain," she remarked.
