Lahore College to have six new departments

Preservation of auditorium, old block also announced.

The Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has decided to set up six new faculties, new Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Sabiha Mansoor announced on Wednesday in her first meeting with staff.


The new departments are Institute of Visual Arts and Design, Faculty of Management and Administrative Studies, Centre of Languages and Culture Studies, Department of Architecture, Career Centre and an Institute of Women Issues. Committees comprising senior faculty members have been set up to formulate rules and regulations for the new bodies, she said.


Prof Mansoor also announced the setting up of the Lahore Intermediate College for Women in the LCWU for intermediate students, a central library and separate common rooms for faculty members and students.

She said back up generators will be provided in all LCWU buildings so that academic activities were not affected. The university auditorium will be renovated and air conditioners will be installed in them with funds provided by the Higher Education Commission. She said that the LCWU old block, a heritage building, would be renovated by trained conservationists.

The VC said that she also planned to set up an Institute of Women’s Leadership and Development soon. A Staff Welfare Association is also being set up.
