Derek Hough dances with Celine Dion and his wife, reflects on singer's documentary
Derek Hough, 39, shared his reaction to Céline Dion's documentary 'I Am: Céline Dion' in a recent Instagram post.
The 'Dancing with the Stars' judge, alongside his wife Hayley Erbert, 29, found watching the documentary a deeply emotional experience. Hough posted a touching video of Dion and Erbert meeting backstage, emphasizing Erbert's admiration for the iconic singer.
Dion's battle with stiff person syndrome (SPS), depicted in the documentary, particularly resonated with Hough, reminding him of his wife's health challenges.
"It was so hard to watch seeing her in pain like that," Hough wrote, acknowledging the difficult scenes portraying Dion's seizures. He drew parallels to Erbert's own health scare, recalling her seizure during a stage performance months ago.
Erbert underwent significant medical procedures, including emergency craniectomy and subsequent cranioplasty, following a cranial hematoma diagnosis in December 2023. Despite these challenges, Erbert has since recovered and returned to performing alongside Hough on their Symphony of Dance Tour.
Céline Dion, 56, disclosed her diagnosis of SPS in December 2022, prompting her to cancel tour plans and focus on managing her condition. The documentary offers a candid glimpse into Dion's life, highlighting her resilience and determination to overcome health setbacks.
Hough, echoing sentiments shared by Dion's fans, expressed optimism about her eventual return to the stage, praising her exceptional talent and legendary status in the music industry.
The documentary 'I Am: Céline Dion' is currently available for streaming on Prime Video, providing viewers with a poignant exploration of Dion's personal and professional journey.
