Camila Cabello discusses Drake collaboration on new album 'C,XOXO'
Camila Cabello is set to release her highly anticipated fourth studio album, C,XOXO, this Friday (June 28), featuring a notable collaboration with Drake on the tracks "Hot Uptown" and "Uuugly."
In an exclusive interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Cabello shared insights into how the collaboration came to be, highlighting their mutual musical connection.
"I feel like, at least from what I know of myself, I feel like we’re musically aligned in a lot of ways," she remarked about working with Drake. "I think we have a lot of the same taste, and lyrically as well."
The pop star revealed that the collaboration started with a direct message from her to Drake.
"I actually slid into his DMs too," she admitted, "and I was like, ‘I’ve been listening to you so much for this album,’ a lot of the wordplay and my aspiration for bars."
According to Cabello, Drake had been following her music since the release of "Havana" in 2018. "I DMed him and then I played him my album and he f—d with it," she explained.
"I sent the idea for ‘Hot Uptown,’ and I wrote my part. I sent it back to him, and we chopped it to it felt like a duet. Then when he re-worked on his parts again, he gave me an outro which was the ‘UUUgly part.'"
Cabello emphasized the collaborative effort, noting the decision to expand Drake's contribution beyond just a feature. "It’s a twofer because he didn’t really need to give me an outro," she said.
"For me, it’s like I don’t want to hear a song like ‘Hot Uptown’ and then have it go into this one minute thing where he is talking his s—, so we decided to just make it another song."
The duo previously sparked headlines during a vacation in Turks and Caicos last December, where they were photographed chatting. Cabello later clarified that the trip involved both leisure and work aspects.
