Central Jail hosts first-ever convocation for inmates

KARACHI:

Karachi Central Jail held the country's first-ever convocation for 248 inmates who completed vocational courses in information technology, graphic designing, Chinese, and English languages, as reported by Express News on Thursday.

During the ceremony, position holders among the inmates were awarded cash prizes of Rs25,000 each along with gifts.

The rehabilitation program was run by Alkhidmat Foundation and the event was attended by Sindh Minister for Jail Ali Hassan Zardari, DIG Naveed Ali Baig, and Sindh IG Prisons Qazi Nazir Ahmed.

Speaking at the event, DIG Baig announced the establishment of a Skills Development and Vocational Training Institute at Karachi Central Jail to teach various skills to inmates.

Zardari stated that the prison system is moving towards improvement. He mentioned plans to introduce solar energy in Sindh jails and emphasised the need to assist underprivileged inmates, promising similar programs across the province.
