‘The Bear’ actor Chris Witaske says the show can get ‘overwhelming’ for both fans and the cast

Witaske, who plays Pete, discussed the profound effect of 'The Bear' on viewers and his own emotional journey.

At the recent season 3 premiere of 'The Bear', Chris Witaske, known for his role as "Pete," shared insights into how deeply the show resonates with its audience. 

Speaking to People magazine, Witaske recounted a poignant encounter with a fan who was moved to tears discussing a pivotal scene from season two featuring Jamie Lee Curtis.

"I was at a concert in Chicago and this guy came up to me and talked about that scene that I have in the final episode of season two with Jamie Lee Curtis," Witaske recalled. 

"And as he was talking, he started getting emotional. He broke down crying because it really affected him."

Describing the profound connection fans have with the show, Witaske highlighted the unexpected emotional depth it evokes. "And so there I was, bear hugging this stranger at a concert. It was a cool moment."

Beyond the audience, Witaske revealed that the intensity of 'The Bear' also impacts its cast members. Reflecting on the episode titled "Fishes," he admitted to being overwhelmed by the emotional demands of the role.

"That was crazy, man. Even in between takes, I was like, 'This is too much,'" Witaske disclosed. 

"It was too much, man. It was. And some of these people are more method actors than me. I am, like, a Chicago comedy dude, and so when people stay in character in between takes and intense. It’s a lot. That night I had to decompress and meditate."
