Princess Eugenie shares wedding photos to mark International Scoliosis Awareness Day

Princess Eugenie shares photos from her wedding that proudly displayed her scar from spinal surgery.

Princess Eugenie, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II, marked International Scoliosis Awareness Day on June 26th by sharing photos from her 2018 royal wedding on Instagram. The images prominently featured the scar from her spinal surgery at age 12 due to scoliosis.

In her post, Eugenie encouraged others who have undergone similar experiences to embrace their scars. She stated, "Today is International Scoliosis AwarenessDay. I just wanted to share my scar and encourage anyone out there who’s gone through something similar to share theirs with me. Let’s be proud of our scars!" She also invited followers to share their own photos for her to repost on her Instagram Stories.

Eugenie further expressed her thoughts and thanks to those affected by scoliosis, healthcare professionals, and researchers at Scoliosis Support & Research. She had previously spoken about her decision to showcase her scar in her wedding dress, designed by Christopher De Vos and Peter Pilotto, in the audio guide that accompanied her bridal look at Windsor Castle in 2019.

The princess explained that she wanted a low-back dress to display her scar, believing scars tell a story and help break down taboos. She was touched by the support she received after her wedding and continues to advocate for those with scoliosis through her patronage of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Charity and Horatio's Garden.
