Tate McRae, the Canadian singer-songwriter and dancer, is no longer eligible for the Best New Artist category at the 2025 GRAMMYs.
According to Billboard, Tate McRae has already been submitted for this award three times in the past three years, making her ineligible for future consideration. Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter has been entered twice—in 2017 and 2024—so she does not run afoul of that rule.
Additionally, her hit song "Greedy" will not be eligible for nomination as it was released one day before the eligibility period, which runs from September 16, 2023, to August 30, 2024.

McRae first gained prominence at age 13 as the first Canadian finalist on the American reality television series So You Think You Can Dance. She was signed by RCA Records in 2019 after her songs gained traction online, including her viral 2017 hit "One Day."
In January 2020, she released her debut EP, All the Things I Never Said. Her 2020 single "You Broke Me First" became an international hit, peaking at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. McRae's 2023 single "Greedy" saw her greatest commercial success, topping the Canadian Hot 100 and reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
Fans have expressed disappointment over McRae's exclusion from the GRAMMYs. One fan commented, “And Sabrina will be nominated what a joke.”
