Adrien Brody set for London stage debut in 'The Fear of 13'
Adrien Brody, renowned for his Oscar-winning role in 'The Pianist,' is poised to make his London stage debut with a compelling performance in 'The Fear of 13'.
The play, set to open in October at the intimate 251-seat Donmar Warehouse, is based on the harrowing true story of Nick Yarris, who was wrongly incarcerated on death row for over two decades.
The narrative follows Yarris, convicted in 1982 for crimes he did not commit, only to be exonerated in 2004 after DNA evidence proved his innocence.
Adapted by Lindsey Ferrentino from a 2015 documentary by David Sington, the play delves into themes of systemic injustice and the resilience of the human spirit.
"This is a story steeped in truth, that exposes systematic injustice and apathy through hope and humanity," Brody shared with The Guardian.
He praised Ferrentino's writing for its richness and social relevance.
Directed by Justin Martin, known for his work on 'Prima Facie' with Jodie Comer and 'Stranger Things: The First Shadow', the production promises a deep and sensitive exploration of its poignant themes.
Brody expressed enthusiasm for his collaboration with Martin and Ferrentino, citing the immersive experience of theatre as a unique and exhilarating challenge.
The production is part of Tim Sheader’s inaugural season as artistic director of the Donmar, following his tenure at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
Sheader’s season also includes other high-profile projects like the UK premiere of 'Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812', and features performances from celebrated actors such as Celia Imrie and Tamsin Greig in 'Backstroke', and Samira Wiley in 'Intimate Apparel'.
Adrien Brody's return to the stage is a highly anticipated event, promising to deliver a powerful and emotionally charged performance in this tragic yet ultimately uplifting narrative.
