KARACHI:

A man was killed in a mysterious firing at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in the wee hours on Tuesday. The police reached the spot and recorded the statements of eyewitnesses and collected evidence from the crime scene.

DSP Nazimabad Kamal Naseem said that the deceased was identified as 30-year-old Afzal, son of Iqbal, a close relative of former SHO Inspector Adeel. At the time of the incident, Afzal had gone to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital's child emergency to visit his friend's son who was receiving treatment. He was sitting outside the child emergency with three friends when someone from inside requested for water. As he stood up to fetch the water, he suddenly collapsed. He told his friends that something had pierced through his chest below the throat. When his friends checked, they saw blood flowing from the spot. They immediately took him to the emergency ward of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries during the treatment. No shell casings were found at the scene.

After completing legal procedures, the police handed over the body to the relatives.

An eyewitness stated that he was sitting close to the spot where the incident took place. At that time a wedding procession was passing by, and someone in the procession was firing shots in the air heavily.
