Britney Spears’ attorney says he was honoured to protect her, and moves on further in his career

Attorney Mathew Rosengart, who ended Britney Spears' conservatorship, moves on to focus on other clients.

Mathew Rosengart, the attorney that helped liberate Britney Spears from a 13-year conservatorship, is moving on to help and focus on more clients, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In an interview with PEOPLE on June 24, Rosengart says the he was: “Honored to work with and protect Britney, who is and will always be an icon, and most specifically, to have helped restore the fundamental rights and civil liberties that were stripped from her, which was always our focus.”

After finally freeing Spears’ from the conservatorship, which was suspended in September of 2021 and subsequently terminated on the 12th of November 2021, Rosengart resolved any and all litigation relating to the conservatorship.

After the court hearing to terminate the conservatorship, Rosengart addressed the media and Britney’s fans, calling it a “monumental” day for the pop star, according to PEOPLE.

"What's next for Britney is up to one person — and this is the first time we can say this in a decade. It's up to Britney," he declared. "Britney, as of today, is a free woman."

The pop star published an Instagram post three months later in February 2022, thanking the attorney.

"This man has turned my life around … So many exciting projects ahead !!!!" Spears wrote, then 40. "We accidentally matched for lunch !!!! Thank you for being so kind and respectful to me always!!!!!!"

Rosengart has continued to represent Spears in the ensuing legal matters, such as settling the dispute between the artist and her father over legal fees that arose due to the conservatorship.

"Although the conservatorship was terminated in November 2021, her wish for freedom is now truly complete," He stated, as reported by PEOPLE. "As she desired, her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to attend or be involved with court or entangled with legal proceedings in this matter.”

“I cannot comment on any specifics as the settlement is confidential. Jamie is thrilled that this is all behind him. He loves his daughter very much and everything he has ever done has been to protect and support her,” Alex Weingarten, attorney of Jamie, Britney’s father, responded in a statement to PEOPLE. “It is unfortunate that some irresponsible people in Britney’s life chose to drag this on for as long as it has.”

In reflection upon the last three years as Spears’ attorney, Rosengart told The Hollywood Reporter, "As I’ve always said, the credit goes to Britney."
