Gladiator 2 trailer to premiere alongside Marvel's Deadpool & Wolverine in mid-July
The trailer for Ridley Scott's "Gladiator 2" is scheduled to be released online in mid-July, with additional screenings attached to the upcoming Marvel blockbuster "Deadpool & Wolverine," according to Collider. This strategic release ensures the trailer will reach a broad audience, as "Deadpool & Wolverine" is expected to be one of the most-watched films of the year. The Marvel film is slated for a July 26th release.
"Gladiator 2," a sequel to the 2000 Oscar-winning epic, recently concluded filming in Europe. The movie stars Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus, the now-adult nephew of Commodus, who has been living in isolation for 15 years. His reappearance causes significant upheaval. The cast also includes Denzel Washington as a former slave turned wealthy merchant, Joseph Quinn as the new Emperor Caracalla, and Pedro Pascal as a former military commander forced into the gladiatorial arena. Returning from the original film are Connie Nielsen and Derek Jacobi, reprising their roles as Lucilla and Senator Gracchus, respectively.
The original "Gladiator" film, released in 2000, starred Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius, a Roman general who becomes a gladiator seeking vengeance after being betrayed. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $460 million worldwide and winning five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Crowe.
"Deadpool & Wolverine" will hit theaters on July 26, featuring the "Gladiator 2" trailer. "Gladiator 2" is set to release in international markets on November 15 and in the United States on November 22.
