Prince William struggled to get into Taylor Swift’s Wembley Eras Tour Show
Prince William, along with Prince George and Princess Charlotte, faced a series of delays and stress before making it to Taylor Swift's sold-out Wembley show, an insider reveals.
Prince William, accompanied by his eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, attended the first of Taylor Swift's three sold-out concerts at Wembley Stadium last Friday. Despite the excitement surrounding the event, the journey there was less than ideal for the royals.
According to an insider who spoke to HELLO!, "They had a nightmare getting in, they were running really late but they had planned to get there earlier so they could have the meet and greet with Taylor beforehand because they knew they wanted to leave early."
“The source explained that the royals had only 25 minutes to spare for a quick meet-and-greet with Taylor Swift before heading to their box seats.
The insider also noted there was considerable stress and panic as the royals navigated their way into the stadium. "There was a bit of stress and panic about that because it was taking too long," the source added.
Once inside, the royals tried to remain inconspicuous by staying towards the back of their box during the performance.
However, Prince William made an exception during Taylor's performance of her 2014 hit "Shake It Off," where he was seen at the front of the box, engaging in his well-known 'dad dancing.'
Before the show, Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, posed for a selfie with the royal family. The Prince and Princess of Wales later posted the photo on their Instagram account, captioning it, "Thank you Taylor Swift for a great evening!"
Prince William and Taylor Swift's acquaintance dates back to 2013 when they performed "Livin' On A Prayer" with Jon Bon Jovi at a charity event at Kensington Palace.
Describing the event, Taylor Swift said in an interview with The Mail on Sunday, "I could hear his voice and it's pretty good. A nice tone. I'd definitely say he has got star quality and if he ever wants me to sing with him again, I'll be there."
In 2021, Prince William reminisced about the event, humorously noting that he obeyed "like a puppy" when Taylor Swift invited him on stage for the impromptu performance.
Interestingly, earlier in the day, the military band at Buckingham Palace played "Shake It Off" to celebrate the arrival of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in London.
The royal family's appearance at the concert contrasted sharply with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's attendance at a Beyonce concert in Los Angeles last September, where Prince Harry appeared less engaged, frequently checking his phone during the show.
