Inside Out 2 soars to top of 2024 box office charts, surpassing Dune 2

Pixar's Inside Out 2 has become the highest-grossing movie of 2024, surpassing Dune: Part Two.

Disney and Pixar's "Inside Out 2" has quickly ascended to the top of the 2024 box office charts, dethroning "Dune: Part Two" as the highest-grossing movie of the year.

In just two weekends, the animated sequel has raked in an impressive $355 million domestically and a staggering $724 million globally.

Internationally, "Inside Out 2" has seen tremendous success, earning $164.4 million from 44 territories in its second weekend alone.

Key markets contributing to its overseas triumph include Mexico, the United Kingdom, Korea, Germany, and Brazil. The film is set to open in its final major market, Japan, on August 1st, further boosting its already impressive figures.

The film's remarkable performance is a welcome relief for movie theaters, which have experienced a slow start to the summer season. The box office is hopeful that upcoming releases like "A Quiet Place: Day One," "Despicable Me 4," "Twisters," and "Deadpool & Wolverine" will continue to drive audiences back to theaters.

"Inside Out 2" has also breathed new life into Pixar, which had been facing a box office slump. Positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth have propelled the sequel's success, making it the fourth-highest grossing animated title ever for IMAX.

Meanwhile, other films are making their mark on the international box office. Universal and Illumination's "Despicable Me 4" opened in four smaller markets this weekend, garnering $9.4 million and exceeding expectations. Sony's "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" added another $24.1 million from 66 markets, bringing its global total to $289.1 million.

With "Inside Out 2" leading the charge, the 2024 box office is showing signs of recovery, promising a promising future for the film industry.
