PBS coming to Nawabshah soon
Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced starting new routes of Peoples Bus Service soon.
After Karachi, Larkana, Hyderabad, Peoples Bus Service will be started in Nawabshah and Shaheed Benazirabad, he said addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club.
In Karachi, Sharjeel said, government will start PBS routes from Hawke’s Bay to Merewether Tower and from Saadi Town to Merewether Tower.
He said that the Sindh government has started shuttle service between Orange Line and Green Line, construction of Jam Sadiq Bridge, and auto fare collection system in the last few months.
Pink buses were increased on the instructions of PPP leader Faryal Talpur and Pakistan’s first EV bus service has been launched.
Sharjeel, who also holds the portfolio of Excise and Taxation Minister, said that FIRs have been registered against people who put fake official number plates on private vehicles. Vehicles with fake number plates will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He said that the Sindh government is amending the Motor Vehicle Ordinance after which no unregistered vehicle will be able to operate in the province.
Now onwards, a car could be bought only when it is registered. A vehicle will not leave the showroom unless registered. Violation of this rule will attract a fine of Rs1 million, the minster said.
Giving thrilling news to car enthusiasts, Sharjeel announced auction of premium number plates on June 29 at a local hotel in Karachi. People will be able to bid for numbers like 001, 111, 786, 555, 123, or even 804. All expenses of this auction event will be supported by private vehicle owners.
Drugs on campus
The minister said that strict action is being taken against narcotics dealers and 137 people have been arrested in the last three months.
He said that the government though coming down hard on the drug dealers was emphatic towards the substance abuse victims.
The Rapid Response Force of Excise Department was there to take any drug addict to the rehabilitation centre, Sharjeel said sharing the phone number 021-111-374-634.
He said government was planning dope tests on campuses. “We will try to ensure that the tests conducted on children in schools and colleges are done with the permission of their parents.”
The name of the one who tests positive will be kept secret and only his parents will be informed, Sharjeel affirmed.
