KESC legal adviser’s murder: Forensics prove at least two more people involved
Police rejecting claims that KESC union troubles to blame.
KARACHI:
Half-eaten barbeque rolls at the crime scene of the triple murder, including that of a KESC lawyer, are leading police to believe at least two more people were there.
Police Superintendent Tariq Dharejo told The Express Tribune that they have sent the food for testing. “Presumably, the leftover food items were poisoned or intoxicated and the murderer was someone close to them and this helped him escape easily,” said Dharejo.
Advocate Fahim-ul Kareem Sarwat, his friend Wajid Mughal, and his assistant Quratulain were found dead in the DHA phase II office on Tuesday.
The police say that the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) is propagating the theory that Sarwat’s murder had something to do with the crisis at the company, hinting that perhaps some disgruntled union workers may be involved.
The police are rejecting this theory. “This is mere propaganda on their (KESC’s) part,” says DSP Zameer Abbasi.
The police are choosing to focus on Quratulain, thinking that perhaps one of her former partners along with other suspects committed the crime.
“According to forensic reports, there were at least two more people present at the crime scene,” said Abbasi. “We think they may be involved.” Abbasi said that the police are trying to ascertain their identities through NADRA and cell phone records.
The police have registered an FIR on behalf of the lawyer’s brother, Javed Haleem. Investigators have recorded the statements of at least seven people, including the victims’ families and neighbours.
