District council hall basement turns into junkyard

The Rawalpindi District Council Hall’s basement has become a junkyard for the district administration's broken vehicles, damaged barriers, tractors, and miscellaneous scrap material.

All the broken vehicles and office equipment from the district administration's offices are dumped in the basement. Due to the lack of security at night, burglars and thieves steal valuable parts from these broken vehicles.

There is no arrangement to protect these broken vehicles, motorcycles, and tractors.

About a dozen walk-through gates have also been dumped here. Whenever a citizen or even a government employee needs a part for their vehicle or motorcycle, they take it after business hours, and no one stops them. These broken vehicles, motorcycles, jeeps, and tractors could have been sold for a good price, but now they are just scrap metal.

The deputy commissioner, assistant commissioner, and district council officials also dump their broken vehicles and equipment here and then purchase new ones. This open dumping ground has also become a security risk.

According to district council sources, this material can only be auctioned with the permission of the deputy commissioner.

A detailed report of the broken vehicles is also sent to the deputy commissioner, and whenever he issues an order, these vehicles, tractors, and motorcycles will be auctioned.
