KARACHI:

After a day of intense heat, various areas of the city experienced sudden rainfall on Friday night, making the weather pleasant.

The rain began in the suburban areas of M-9 Motorway and Gulshan-e-Maymar, followed by heavy showers in Surjani Town, Federal B Area, and Manghopir.

Meanwhile, moderate to light rain was reported in areas including New Karachi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Karachi, Bahadurabad, Old Sabzi Mandi, Saddar, Kala Pul, and Bizerta Line. A few areas saw drizzle, with some regions like Orangi Town recording cool breezes as well.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Depart-ment, the rain in the city on Friday night was due to the effects of a Western Disturbance.

There is also a possibility of rain in the suburban and other areas of the city today.

Thundershowers expected in suburbs

Wind and thundershowers are expected in the suburbs of Karachi from afternoon to evening on Saturday.

Karachi braved another hot and humid day on Friday, with the morning observing a partial heat wave due to severe haze, and humidity peaking at 73%. The maximum temperature reached 38.6 degrees Celsius.

Over the next three days, temperatures could remain high, exceeding 38 degrees Celsius.

Intense daytime sunshine and a lack of sea breezes created conditions akin to a heat wave. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius. Rural areas of Sindh, including Chhoor and Mithi, also faced intense heat, recording temperatures up to 41 degrees Celsius. The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts continued hot and humid weather for the next three days, with morning humidity possibly reaching 70-80% and evening humidity 50-60%.

The Early Warning Centre of the Meteorological Depart-ment forecasts the possibility of rain, accompanied by gusty winds and thundershowers, in Karachi's suburbs from afternoon to evening today.

Hyderabad, Thatta, and several rural districts of Sindh, including Dadu, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Ghotki, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jamshoro, and Sanghar, may also experience thundershowers. The rest of the province is expected to remain hot, very hot, and dry.

According to the Weather Updates, a non-governmental weather analysis organisation, there is a good chance of thunder cells forming in the northern and northwestern areas of Karachi on June 22 and 23. These weather patterns are likely to affect suburbs such as Gadap, Surjani Town, Dumba Goth, Malir, and areas near the airport, potentially bringing rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

There's a 50% chance these thunderstorms may also impact central parts of the city if they intensify.
